The FinservUK-List Mailing List provides an email based forum in which members can read and post messages relating to the Financial Services Industry in the UK.

The Finservuk-list is an email discussion list the mechanics of operation are as follows.:

  • When you send an e-mail to the list address, a copy of your message is sent by the listserver to all the members of the list to read.

  • You will receive a confirmation that the message has been sent to X number of list members where X is the current total of members.

  • A list member who reads your message may either delete it, save it or reply to it. If they use their Reply button their reply will in turn be sent to the list address and the list manager will immediately despatch a copy to all list members. This person will also then get a confirmation from the listserver that the message has been delivered to X List members.

  • List members will respond to the original message, the follow up either to the list or by mailing to you privately "off the list".

  • It is perfectly normal for several topics (threads) to be under discussion at the same time with different members posting and participating in the discussion on any or all of the threads.

New members unfamiliar with lists may wish to to "lurk", reading the messages and get a feel for the ebb and flow of discussion before participating. It is recommended that a new member posting for the first time should read this FAQ beforehand and to give a small introduction in their post. This can be as simple as "Fred Bloggs IFA in the DBS network"

Membership is restricted to those working in the Financial Services Industry but NOT exclusively to those licensed to offer Financial advice. All applications to subscribe are asked to confirm their email and some brief details regarding their occupation.

Membership consists of IFA's, Compliance officers, Bankers, Building Society Mangers, IFA Association and IFA Promotion staff, Marketing and other staff at product providers, support and management staff at organisations like the Exchange and ORIGO as well as senior managers, and directors at several of the IFA Networks and Software companies.

The list is NOT for providing members with specific individual advice (personal or corporate). Please see the section on giving advice.

This F.A.Q. is updated regularly and the most recent copy is available be email by sending an email to:

NO subject or message is required as it is an automated reply and both subject and message body in your message will be ignored.

This is a medium volume list with an average of 15 posts a day. We suggest to those people who wish to receive less email to subscribe to the digest mode.

The digest is delivered daily at Midnight London Time and is a list of Indexed messages from the past 24 hours. A sample of a what a member would receive as a daily digest is available by sending an email to: Mailto:gordon@silverquick.net

To protect your mailboxes from overflowing, there are posting guidelines that we ask our membership to adhere. These are posted periodically to the Mailing List for your enjoyment and perusal.

Please do read the Questions and Answers below before mailing your questions to me. If you mail a question to the list that is covered in this F.A.Q. you will make yourself look silly and are likely to annoy other list members.

I am likely to be more forgiving and will just send you the up to date F.A.Q. to read.
